Another amazing Himalayan climb

GLOFs

As we progressed up the Hinku Valley, the devastation of a GLOF became apparent. A Glacial Lake Outburst Flood is a geological event becoming all to common in the high mountains of the world. As glaciers melt, they can cause lakes at their terminous to overflow, breaking down the morrainal dams and allowing massive volumes of water to burst downstream. This valley experienced such a flood about 15 years ago.
